The United States are blessed with an abundance of natural forest lands that have been managed for commercial and non-commercial use since the 1800s. The hardwood forests of the eastern half of the country contain a wide range of temperate species, many of which are readily available as lumber and dimension products to domestic and overseas customers.

The information in our species guide is provided by the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) and gives a general overview of the most commonly available commercial species.
